Your body breaks down Clopidogrel slower than most. If a doctor ever prescribes it after a heart event, mention this — they may choose a different blood thinner.

06 — Dr. Prime

A guide for the parts that
don't make sense yet.

Dr. Prime reads your report alongside you. Ask questions in plain language — what a finding means, what to ask your physician, what to ignore. It is an explainer, not a prescriber.

Dr. Prime does not diagnose or prescribe. Always confirm clinical decisions with a licensed healthcare professional.

YOU
What does it mean that I'm an "intermediate metabolizer" for CYP2C19?
DR. PRIME
Your liver makes a slightly less active version of an enzyme called CYP2C19. That enzyme switches certain drugs on — most notably Clopidogrel (a common blood thinner). In your case the activation is slower, so the drug may be weaker than expected.
If you ever need a blood thinner after a heart-related event, mention this line on your Medication Safety Card. Your physician will likely choose an alternative (Prasugrel or Ticagrelor).
